* guest choreographer
My choreography experience includes:
Musical Theatre
have worked in collaboration with award winning choreographer Anthony van Laast MBE for various West End and touring productions and have also created musical theatre show numbers for some of the UK’s top dance colleges. I am a regular guest teacher at the London School of Musical Theatre and am currently creating and choreographing two productions for a new P&O cruise ship.
Commercial/Hip Hop/Streetdance
I have been teaching and choreographing these styles of dance for many years. I have collaborated with Funkstylerz UK on various shows and projects and was a guest choreographer on the streetdance show ‘Bounce’. I was the executive choreographer for the Fashion Live production company working with some of the UK’s top commercial dancers and have recently been choreographing dancers from the West End hip hop show ‘Into the Hoods’. I am currently involved in the production of a professional streetdance syllabus for teachers.
Ballroom/Latin
Trained by Peggy Spencer MBE, I began my career competing as a regular finalist in all major UK championships and subsequently became a fully trained professional Latin/ballroom teacher. My students have included Chris and Jaci and Vincent and Flavia from ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
Swing/Lindy Hop
I was a member of the authentic jazz dance company ‘Zoots & Spangles’ and have been choreographed by the legendary Frankie Manning – one of the original exponents of lindy hop….priceless! My knowledge of swing music and dance is vast and my swing choreography can be seen on ‘Burn The Floor’ and ‘Strictly Come Dancing’. In fact, after the girls’ swing group dance, Strictly judge Len Goodman’s comment was ‘I thought that was possibly the best group dance that I’ve seen on any of the Strictly’s’. High praise indeed!
Salsa
Authentic Latin music and dance are my absolute passion! I have taught and performed at many salsa events, weekenders and congresses around the world. Having worked in Cuba, I have been educated in the many Latin rhythms that are responsible for the vibrant salsa dance scene today. I regularly lecture on salsa for various dance societies and I recently commentated on British Eurosport for the Monaco Salsa Festival. I am the main salsa choreographer on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’.
Tango
With my knowledge of both ballroom and Argentine tango, I performed in the Movie ‘Evita’ with Madonna, the ‘Bird on a Wire’ video for ‘The Beautiful South’ and choregraphed and performed tango choreography in George Michael’s ‘Spin the Wheel’ video.
Tap
My tapping claim to fame is that I once performed a tap duet with Bret Jones from the Broadway show ‘Hot Shoe Shuffle’ whilst on tour in Scandinavia with John Miller (Glen’s nephew) and his band. As well as being able to put together Broadway-style tap routines I enjoy playing with the rhythms when it comes to tap. I currently teach American/jazz tap at professional level.
Bollywood
Last year I assisted and co-choreographed a huge bhangra festival in Trafalgar Square, London, working with some of Asia’s most successful pop artists. The choreography was a fusion of commercial, street and bhangra styles. Also, I recently recreated the show number ‘Shakalaka Baby’ from ‘Bombay Dreams’ for BBC’s ‘Let’s Dance…..for Comic Relief
Musical Director:
Simon Egerton (Song)Writer/ Performer/ Composer/ Director
Simon has worked extensively as a musician and performer.
Simon started working as a dance repetiteur at 18, working with many of the great companies; Royal Ballet, Royal Swedish Ballet, LCDT, The Kirov Ballet. He worked with Nureyev, Messerer and Barishnikov, was a founder member of Central School of Ballet (as well as being its first director of music). He wrote the show Biography for the late William Louther (Shaw Theatre), before returning to study as a singer at GSMD aged 22.
Simon started acting with the comedy troupe Natural Theatre Co, touring extensively, combining musical, comedy and physical skills. These same physical skills served him well in his many acting roles including: Charley's Aunt (Royal Exchange) alongside Michael Sheen and Claire Skinner, Phelim McDermotts production of A Midsummer Night's Dream (English Shakespeare Company), and as Maximillian in John Doyles acclaimed production of Candide.
As well as a successful acting career, Simon was Head of Music and vocal coach at several drama colleges and at Opera North and the Royal Opera House working with composer Ben Park. He is an award winning Musical Director and a composer for both film and theatre.
In 2005, Simon's career was interrupted by illness, affecting his speech and mobility, and he spent three years in a wheelchair. During this time he trained in complemantary health practices and was Head of Music at two schools. He has made a full recovery and is back performing his "Fagends and Families" and writing performing and directing. And acting in and musically directing Missing Pieces.
